Artist Statement
This series of small Color Field paintings, executed in Williamsburg Oils on both canvas board and wood panel, serves as a meditative exploration of color and emotion. Each piece, varying in dimensions from square to rectangular, acts as a study for larger works yet to come. Through these intimate compositions, I aim to create a tranquil space where viewers can immerse themselves in the subtle interplay of hues and forms.
The deliberate simplicity of the color fields is designed to evoke a range of subtle emotions, encouraging viewers to engage in a quiet, introspective dialogue with the artwork. The soft transitions and the purity of color invite a meditative state, allowing each individual to project their feelings and experiences onto the canvas. This interaction transforms the viewing experience into a personal journey of reflection and emotional resonance.
These studies are not just preliminary sketches for larger pieces but stand-alone works that highlight the power of color to influence mood and perception. By focusing on small-scale formats, I emphasize the intimacy of the viewing experience, inviting a closer, more personal engagement with the art. This approach underscores my belief in the profound impact that subtle shifts in color and form can have on our emotional landscape, offering a serene and contemplative escape from the complexities of daily life.
